We are a group of people from the UK who sponsor children at the Zelyn Academy in the Kibera slum in Kenya.
These children are orphans or the most destitute in Kibera slum and by gaining their Kenya Certificate of Primary Education they can then go on to secondary education (which is not free) to hopefully attain their Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education. Without this certificate the children cannot access the job market. Unless the sponsors agree to continue their sponsorship throughout secondary education the child’s schooling ends in primary class 8 and the child has no hope in gaining a better future for themselves.
The aim of the charity, High School For Kibera, is to supply the current directors of Zelyn Academy with a secondary school which would enable more children of Kibera to gain access to a secondary education therefore giving them hope for the future.
Therefore we hope to raise enough funds for:
THE ADVANCEMENT OF THE EDUCATION OF DISADVANTAGED YOUNG PERSONS IN KIBERA, NAIROBI, KENYA, IN PARTICULAR BUT NOT BY WAY OF LIMITATION BY:-
- THE CONSTRUCTION, MAINTENANCE AND DEVELOPMENT OF SCHOOL BUILDINGS
- THE PROVISION OF EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES (INCLUDING MATERIALS, EQUIPMENT AND UNIFORMS).
